What is tracking?
Tracking is the ability detect , recognise and follow a specific scent. Our dog's are born with this skill, and we already harness this skill with police dogs and military (searching for criminals, finding poachers, finding animals etc)
You can now harness this skill with your pet dog, teaching them some fun tracking skills!
Tracking is hugely beneficial, and is great for:
- Giving your dog an outlet for 'hunting', so we can put it on cue and control it!
- Helping you to find lost keys on a walk!
- Lowering arousal/excitement levels, so your dog can focus better
- Teaching your dog to find missing people (a great skill to take with you to volunteer for a local dog search & rescue team)
- Improving your relationship with your dog!
When tracking a Human the dogs are taught to follow Track Scent, which is the disturbance in the ground left by the humans feet , (footprints ). Tracking dogs are taught to keep their nose down and follow the whole track and indicate on any evidence (articles) , dropped by the criminal, and which route he tookÂ
This 2 day workshop is 3 hours per day and is a practical course. Please bring:
- Harness
- Long line
- 2 x Red Kongs
- Lots of tasty, high value treats
- A favourite toy
