Jenny founded Adolescent Dogs in 2006 and is one of the Company Directors. To date, she has helped to train over 10,000 dogs and their owners.  

 

Jenny has been assessed by the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers and passed her 2nd Grade.  She is a VSA Certified Dog Trainer, an approved member of the Guild of Dog Trainers (GODT) as a Master Trainer, a member of the COAPE Association of Applied Pet Behaviourists & Trainers, a Certified Trick Dog Instructor (CDTI), a Canine Conditioning Fitness Coach and holds membership with the Pet Professional Guild for Force Free Dog Trainers

 

Jenny lives with her husband Mike, 9 dogs, 3 cats, 7 goats, 3 giant tortoises & 2 children (11yr and 8 yr) in rural Ewhurst with over an acre of land to train on, backing onto Polo fields - which offer hundreds more acres. Making Jenny & Mike an excellent choice for puppies needing early socialisation and exposure.

 

Jenny & her husband Mike offer limited opportunities for dogs to learn with them on the Intensive Courses,  the One to One Programmes or their Online Academy. 100% of their Online Academy memberships goes directly towards offering discounted residential stays for Assistance Dogs as well as raising & training puppies donated to their assistance dog programme.  They are passionate about using reward-based training. 

 

Jenny uses a game based approach to training, making training fun and learning fast!  All training is done using treats, toys, games, life rewards and lots of praise to ensure your dog enjoys their stay and learns effectively whilst maintaining high welfare standards. They only take in 1 dog at a time for training, so are able to offer a more personal and exclusive training service.

Their own dogs include a Pug (Spyder Pug), 2 Chinese Crested (Pavlov and Hero) a Mini Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican Hairless called Bullseye), 3 Standard Xoloitzcuintli called Hiccup, Zombi & Dante, a Border Collie called Houdini. Plus Mike's Working Cocker Spaniel (Echo). They also occasionally foster dogs for various rescues, helping to re-train and rehabilitate rescue dogs

Jenny is currently working Hiccup and Zombi through their UK Sniffer Dogs Titles and Trick Dog Titles, with Hiccup achieving his UK Sniffer Dogs Silver Title, and Champion Trick Title, and Zombi completing her UK Sniffer Dogs Bronze Title. She is also working on Competitive Obedience with Hiccup

Winifred the Labrador Puppy - 3 Weeks Residential Dog Training

Winifred the Labrador puppy has completed her 3 week residential training stay with us As a growing puppy, her family wanted her to have the best start to her training and socialisation whilst they were away on holiday Winifred lacks confidence around other dogs, so we’ve spent time building her confidence around lots of different dogs and introducing her to older dogs who are great role models. During her 3 week stay, she has learnt how to walk nicely on the lead, to come when called and to respond to a variety of cues in busy environments, including the useful Middle cue so she can seek safety from her owners whenever she feels overwhelmed. The 3 week stay has given her a wonderful foundation so that she can grow with her training and navigate through adolescence with ease. Zeya the Xoloitzcuintle has completed her 3 week residential training stay with us Before she arrived for training, she was very scared of children and adults who stopped to talk to her. She would bark and lunge in fear or even run up and jump at them barking. This was obviously not ideal as it could get her into a lot of trouble! Since her season she could also be reactive to unknown dogs and would snarl at any that came close to her In addition to this, she lacked confidence with being handed to have her jumpers put on or when being moved from furniture During her 3 week stay, we have worked intensely on some counter conditioning exercises to help change her emotional response as well as taught her to move away from overwhelming situations rather than running into them. We’ve taught her it’s ok to move away from people when she feels pressured to say Hi and desensitised her to the invitations to greet. Zeya has been able to make friends with children and adults she has seen frequently during the stay and is more relaxed and calm when meeting new adults and children She is also able to walk past people and dogs when out and is happier and more relaxed to ignore them and stay focused on her owner instead . We introduced some basic Parkour training in public too, to help build her self confidence and get her interacting with her environment, making her less worried about the people and dogs Finally, we have worked on building her confidence with being handled and taught her a solid send to bed cue to reduce the conflict with getting off the sofa when needed Well done Zeya! Dexter the Bedlington Terrier Puppy - 3 Weeks Residential Dog Training

Dexter the Bedlington Terrier has completed his 3 week residential training holiday with us Dexters family adore him, but as first time owners they were struggling with some behaviours such as pulling on the lead, jumping up, picking rubbish up off the street and getting over excited around dogs and people. His family made a great start with his training in the home, but progress stopped outdoors as he wouldn’t take food treats Over the past 3 weeks, we’ve worked on building Dexters food drive so that he is happy to work for treats out on walks. This has enabled us to progress his skills out and about in a variety on environments Dexter is able to walk nicely on the lead in lots of different environments, ignoring rubbish on the streets and walking past dogs and people without leaping to greet them. He can also greet other dogs on cue and come away when called, giving him more freedom on walks Alongside this, we’ve also worked on his settling skills in a home environment so that he can relax whilst his family are working at home, rather than asking for attention all the time

Frankie the French Bulldog mix - 3 Weeks Assistance Dog Residential Training

Frankie the French Bulldog has completed his 3 week assistance dog residential stay with us When Frankie arrived for training, he was very worried by other dogs and his hackles would go up, he’d go stiff, stare and pull towards them. He found it difficult to focus on his owners and couldn’t respond to basic obedience cues, would pull on the lead and struggled to come when called. Over the past 3 weeks we’ve worked on rebuilding Frankie’s confidence around dogs so that he can feel more relaxed and more able to respond to cues Frankie is now more relaxed around other dogs and can walk nicely on the lead and settle in lots of different environments including town, the farm and busy dog parks. This will enable his owner to take him out with confidence, even in busy places. We’ve also worked hard to get Frankie to pass his Silver Assistance Dog Award and to start making progress through the Gold Award. This includes teaching Frankie to respond to cues from a distance, long duration settle training, heeling past dogs, recall from dogs, impulse control and calm social manners. Willow the Labrador Puppy - Gifted Assistance Dogs

Willow has been donated to our Assistance Dog Programme and is beginning his training journey to become an assistance dog. His first 4 weeks with us is about socialisation, building confidence around people dogs and animals and exploring different environments. We also begin teaching him all of the basic obedience cues and take these out to different environments. Willow has been matched to a family supporting CPTSD, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Autism We're not a charity, so we donate 100% of our Online Academy memberships towards our assistance dog programme. Bella the Xoloitzcuintle Puppy - 2 Weeks Residential Dog Training

Bella the Xolo puppy has completed her 2 week residential training stay with us. She didn't have the best start in life, being born in Mexico and receiving little to no socialisation and then experiencing a traumatic journey to the UK. Sadly this meant that Bella was quite nervous of dogs and people and needed some urgent confidence building and socialisation. Over the last 2 weeks, we focused on building Bella's confidence by letting her explore novelty, solve puzzles and learn problem solving skills. We have also spent lots of time around other controlled dogs and people, so that Bella could build her confidence without fear of dogs/people invading her space uninvited. Through this, she has gained lots of confidence, and has learnt lots of new skills such as heeling, recall, leave and middle so that she can navigate her world with confidence. Coby the Labrador Puppy - 2 Weeks Residential Dog Training

Coby the 4 month old Labrador puppy has completed his 2 week residential stay whilst his owners were on holiday They sent their last dog to us 11 years ago, utilising a few top up stays along the way, so it's been great to catch up! Coby has learnt all of the core obedience cues, such as Sit, Down, Wait and Leave. He is a joy to take out to busy parks, the beach and shops, as he walks nicely on the lead, has an excellent recall, will Wait attentively while distractions pass and settles like a boss in the pub!
