Your dog could run into a road… not only getting himself run over, but he could potentially cause a fatal accident for someone trying to swerve and miss him!
The Re-call Workshop is designed to teach your puppy or older dog to come when called (first time!) and put YOU back in control.
The Re-call Workshop is ideal if your dog:
Ignores you calling when he is occupied with something more interesting (sniffing a blade of grass or playing with another dog)
Only comes when called when there are no distractions
Comes back to you, but only when he feels like it, not when you've told him to.
Runs off to greet other dogs and people
Chases after rabbits, deer, cyclists or joggers
Runs circles round you when you go to clip the lead back on
Gets a 'red mist' over his eyes before shooting off into the distance
Prefers to play with other dogs rather than you
Runs dangerously towards traffic.
It is your responsibility as a dog owner to ensure that you have 100% control of your dog when he is off the lead regardless of distraction. It may be interesting for you to know that you could be charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act if your dog is deemed dangerously out of control in a public place.
Section 3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act applies to all dogs that are dangerously out of control in a public place (it does not apply to dogs in their own garden who jump up at visitors). If a dog acts in a way in which someone fears they will be attacked, then an offence is committed. The fines are up to £5000 and/or 6 months in prison and the Courts may order the dog to be destroyed.
This can be as simple as your dog running up to a stranger or running up to a dog on lead. Any of these can frighten someone and your dog can be liable under this act.
Gaining proper control of your dog off the lead is a must and will in turn enhance your own dogs life by allowing him to express natural behaviours.

So how do you get control? The Recall Workshop runs as a 4 hour workshop consisting of 2 one to one lessons and 2 group lessons. The group lessons have a set course running date and time. Please check dates, times and availability below. The one to one lessons are conducted at a time and location to suit you.
One to One Lessons: We recommend booking your first one to one before the start of the group lessons and booking your second one to one right at the end to pick up any pieces.
Group lessons: These 2 group lessons have a maximum of 2 dogs to ensure that you receive plenty of one to one attention with the added benefit of incorporating another dog into the training. These group classes are run at a set time and need to be booked below.
Exercises taught:Create a desire in your dog to come back to you when there are distractions.Come when called, first time.Come when called away from other dogs.Come when called away from peopleControlling your dogs impulse to run off after prey animals (rabbits, deer, squirrels etc).Teach your dog to come when called mid-chase (from prey, joggers, bikes or dogs).Emergency stop.
Peace of Mind Costs £80 per dog. (plus 30p per mile from Ash Vale for one to one lessons) or no travel charge if the lessons are arranged at Puttenham Common or Ash Ranges.
Guarantee: The Recall Workshop carries a guarantee. Most people find that after the 3 lessons, they are confident enough to carry on by themselves and have seen a marked improvement in their dogs recall behaviour. However, should you be one of the unlucky owners who owns a strong willed and stubborn dog, we do offer to continue helping you at no extra cost until you feel confident to carry on by yourself. This is usually offered in additional one to one lessons in Ash Vale.

Training Methods
We don't use any food in our recall group because at Adolescent Dogs we think your dog should WANT to come to you for you, not because you have food in your hand. When training with food, you will find your dog will only return if he is hungry enough! Throughout the duration of the course we will be teaching you the skills required to create that desire in your dog using you, the owner as a reward.
What to bringYour dog on a well fitted collar (no choke chains and no harnesses (unless needed for medical purposes)A standard length lead (no retractables please)A 10 metre long training line (the CLIX company of animals leads are comfortable)Your dogs favourite toySpare poo bagsA towel for your dogWater for you and your dogA snack for yourself incase you get hungry! (It's a long session)Don't feed your dog within 2 hours before the class as your dog will be doing lots of running around.
If you are unsure if this course it suitable for you and your dog, you can contact Jenny on 07734 034 563 for an informal chat about your dogs requirements.
