ZyWeb

About Puppy 2

Classes are run by instructors Jenny Trigg and Dale Foley in Godalming (Monday nights), Basingstoke (Tuesday nights), Guildford (Wednesday nights) and Farnham (Thursday nights).

Puppy 2 class is a combination of advanced training, distance control, distraction training and socialisation.

When to start?

The Puppy 2 class is open to all graduates of Puppy 1 or the Adolescent course.   Despite being called 'Puppy 2', there is no upper age limit and those who have completed basic training elsewhere can also enroll.

What we teach

Puppy 2 will help you teach your adolescent pup to be calm, attentive and responsive and to respond quickly, willingly and happily, especially with distractions, off lead, and at a distance.

ZyWeb

Your dog will learn:

  • Distance control - lie down from a distance
  • Running Wait (Emergency Stop)
  • Settle Down
  • Rock-solid stays with distractions
  • On and off lead walking and heeling
  • Recall past food on the floor
  • Walk to heel off-lead past food on the floor
  • Come when called off-lead through dogs
  • Impulse control - control your dogs impulse to run off or chase
  • Socialisation and bite inhibition with other dogs

Class Structure

Puppy 2 is an extremely rewarding class to take and it will greatly improve your dog's quality of life, as it will improve your quality of life with your dog.

Puppy 2 helps you navigate your pup's adolescence and transition into adulthood by focusing on maintaining bite inhibition, solidifying socialisation and perfecting reliable off-lead control at a distance.

Training Methods

Much of the Puppy 2 syllabus comprises proofing verbal and hand signal control without the need for food lures or rewards, or any other training tools. All training rewards are replaced with more valuable life rewards until eventually, your young adolescent has been taught to want to do what you want him to do. Magical!

Final Week

On the final week, we have some fun and relaxed competitions to test your dogs skills.  You will have the chance to win some rosettes and you will receive a certificate upon completion of the course.
